The Rainforest Part 1: The Great Kapok Tree – Free Literacy Resources

In light of the current situation, the need for home learning resources has never been stronger. Teachers all over the world are busy changing lessons and searching for resources that will aid their pupils’ home online learning experience. Distance learning is a new reality and it’s as new for the teachers as it is for the children.

Teachers, now more than ever, need to unite and help each other by sharing any resources they have. For my Year 4 class, I created some PowerPoint presentations that go alongside the Hamilton persuasive writing unit, focusing on Lynn Cherry’s ‘The Great Kapok Tree’, and I am sharing them here for free to help all educators and parents out there.

‘The Great Kapok Tree’ has sold over a million copies and has become a beloved classic that teaches ecology, compassion and personal responsibility as well as providing opportunities to teach grammar and persuasive writing. It’s a great book that allows for endless discussions.

There are more to come, so stay tuned. I’ll be uploading more as I create them.

Let me know in the comments below if you find them useful!

Stay safe and healthy.

Till next time…

Thanks for sharing. I was just looking for resources for this book and will definitely adopt yours to use with my Kindergarteners while we’re doing online school.

    1. I’m glad you liked them and of course feel free to modify them to suit your year group. In case you are interested, I also uploaded some new resources for ‘The Shaman’s Apprentice’, another book from Lynne Cherry.

Thank you so much for this wonderful resource. It’s perfect! I was able to easily download Lesson 1 and Lesson 4, but Lesson 2 and 3 are linked to the first lesson. I was just wondering if you have 2 and 3 available separately?

    1. Hello I’m so sorry it has taken me this long to reply but your comment went into spam for some reason. I’ll see what I can do and hopefully you can use them next year.

Hello, thank you so much for your resources. They are wonderful. Unfortunately, I could only download the first lesson. Can you help me with the other three?
