10 Things Teachers Actually Do in the Summer

Teachers lead such busy lives during the academic year. Have you ever wondered what they get up to during the summer holidays? Here are 10 things teachers actually do in the summer.

10 Things Teachers Actually Do in the Summer

  1. Read

Whilst the reading genres may vary drastically, teachers do actually use the summer holidays to unwind with the books of their choice, you may find a curriculum/school related one somewhere in there, too!

  2. Exercise

Summertime allows teachers to look after their bodies a bit more. It’s the time that they can focus on getting fit, as when school starts it gets harder to keep up with an exercise routine.

  3. Coaching/Summer school

It’s surprising that teachers choose to work in the summer, but let’s face it, no one is in teaching for the salary. Many teachers opt to teach summer school or coach as a way to make ends meet.

  4. Get their classroom ready

You may think it’s all rest, rest, rest, but don’t be fooled. Summertime is the time that teachers will begin planning their year ahead.Teachers who are moving year groups, or classes, will need to spend time in their room getting it ready. This usually happens in the summertime when they have an abundance of time and can take their time to making it just the way they like it.

  5. Shopping

Teachers shop, shop, shop till they drop, especially if they come across a teaching store. Many teachers spend a lot of their money on school supplies for their students and rooms. I don’t know a teacher, to this day, who doesn’t do this, do you?

  6. Pamper themselves

Summertime is the time for them to look after themselves, relax, have a massage, spend time at the beach and just unwind.

  7. Seminars/Learn

Teachers can choose to become learners during the summer because they suddenly have the time to do so. Teachers love teaching but also enjoy learning. Many choose summer courses to further develop as professionals or spend time on their hobbies .

  8. Travel

Teachers recharge their batteries by travelling to other places. A change of scenery works wonders and gives them strength to work hard when the new school year starts.

  9. Have a life

Summertime is a chance for them to get their lives back and do things outside of school. Meet with friends, have fun and spend more time with their loved ones.

  10. Sleep

By far my favourite one! Teachers sleep, sleep and sleep some more! We sure need it!

You mean, teachers don’t hibernate in the classroom until school starts up again? 🙂

So true – and then when the kids see you OUTSIDE the school, they are confused that you actually live outside of school. So crazy!
