The 3 Rs for the Summer Holidays

We all know about the 3 Rs of taking care of the environment: recycle, reuse, reduce. But what about the 3 Rs in relation to taking care of ourselves? Teachers have a hard time letting go, even when on holiday. They are constantly thinking of ways to better themselves and come up with new ideas for their pupils. However, during the holidays it is imperative we teachers, do the 3 Rs that will help us become happier people thus, happier teachers. 🙂

1. Relax

I’m currently on the first R and relaxing as much as possible. Being able to do simple everyday things in normal time, without multi-tasking is great! I’ve just started a really good book that helps me unwind. Do what you love, read, dance, eat, watch a movie, anything that will help you get back to being you, after a hectic school year.

2. Recharge

Recharge those batteries! Go somewhere if you can and get a change of scenery. I love travelling and there is nothing that beats going somewhere to break up your everyday routine. That may be another country, area or even just heading down to the beach or up a mountain. Expose yourself to new experiences and distance yourself from work.

3. Renew

Towards the end of the holiday, when you have returned and are rested you will be amazed as to how many more ideas you will have for the upcoming year. Your brain will be a waterfall of inspiration waiting to be put into action. You need a rest and a break from work, enjoy it and you will see its benefits as you further develop as a professional.

That’s the advice I plan to follow, so this is really a little mental note to myself, to make sure I stay on track. It works for me, I hope it works for you, too! Let me know how it goes by leaving a comment below. Thanks!

Till next time…
