More than a million earthquakes rattle the world each year!
An earthquake is caused by a powerful movement of the tectonic plates, which are found below the Earth’s crust. The fast release of energy creates seismic waves that travel through the Earth. We feel that movement and call it an earthquake.
It is important in earthquake prone countries, to build houses and buildings that react well to earthquakes. Good engineering practises can help stop buildings collapsing under the stress of large earthquakes. Read on if you want to know what to do during an earthquake.
