Diary of a Wimpy Kid – The Last Straw

Having heard so much about these books, I finally decided to grab one and see for myself what all the hype was about. I couldn’t get hold of the first book (which I’ve heard is the best one) but instead managed to find The Last Straw. I decided to make this book review a little more informal than the other ones so as to follow the style of the book (kind of).

The book is Written in diary form by Greg Hefley, the main character and narrator, who is in the second half of his seventh grade year. It is written in a relaxed manner with a few spelling mistakes now and again to make it realistic. It is a novel written by the American author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney and is the third book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, published in 2009.

As an adult, I found it to be quite funny. I can see why this series is loved so much by children and has become an international bestseller. The main character has many adventures that both girls and boys can easily relate to. Even I could relate to some of them from long ago when I was much younger! Ha! The illustrations, by Jeff Kinney himself, are brilliant! I would definitely recommend it as a nice easy read for upper juniors and middle school.

In this book Greg Heffley’s father threatens to send him to military camp if he doesn’t pull his socks up. He has a bunch of crazy ideas as to how to get rich and famous, but none of them work. Also his father signs him up for football which doesn’t quite turn out the way he had in mind. It’s cute and fun to read.

Have you read it..? What did you think of it?

Always happy to read your thoughts and comments!

Till next time…
